The project was to develop an accessible interactive resource around going to the opticians. The project involved Chayne being filmed and photographed (by David and the LDICN) having his eyes tested at Vision Express. This information has now been put onto an interactive story board that people can look at and print off to prepare themselves for going to the opticians. The CD of going to the opticians is free to anyone and will be available from the internet. The storyboard is broken down into sections so that people can choose to look at the sections that are relevent to them. It is an excellent resource for people on
the Autistic spectrum who may want to see the process of having thier eyes checked as the storyboard follows the sequence of a real eye test. The story board has easy words and pictures and has a readaloud function, therefore is beneficial for people with a learning disability whose first language is not English and for people who have difficulties reading. The CD promotes independece and inclusion into mainstream health services. The project topic was chosen by two members of the group who have a learning disability, David and Chayne. David and Chayne spent time reviewing what was already available and thinking about how these resources could be imporved upon. They were involved in developing the photostory and visiting the Vision Expressstore.
