Assistive Technology

The technology service of Leicester City Council recognises that individual solutions are necessary for indiviudal problems. The technology used is divided into 2 main types:

1.  Stand Alone: This is technology that works independently and is not linked to anything else. For example – Calendar Clock
2. Telecare: This technology is linked to people’s homes. For example – Community alarm service which can be linked to other alerting systems like mobile phones.

With all equipment please be clear that you are dealing with the actual problem and not a symptom. Don’t assume that because one type of equipment worked with one service-user it will always provide a solution for that particular problem.

If in any doubt which solution is appropriate for an individual please contact the relevant Technology Support Worker. Please remember that although various types of technology are listed within the data base, many other items are available and the Technology Support Worker is always happy to search for alternatives for individual service-users.
